One of my favorite photos that i have taken here. In Tuebingen... a really beautiful town
They call me Root
I have yet to find someone in Germany who can pronounce my name... They call me Root. This blog will be exclusively filled with the wanderings and ponderings of me whilst on my year abroad. Happy reading ...

The first two months
Having seen that lots of my friends have created a blog about their year abroad, i thought i would jump on the band wagon.
It is my second month here and so far things are going well (not wanting to jinx anything of course). I arrived here two months ago with one suitcase, a hand bag, a laptop, a mother who had never been to Germany and a father who i had to prevent from saying "Sauerkraut" to every German that he met.
It was after a night in the noisiest hotel in the world (this is not an exaggeration) that i encountered my first real problem when asking the receptionist at the hotel for some more cutlery:
I did not know the German word for spoon!!! I had studied German for nearly 10 years, could have in depth discussions about integration, the economy, literature, music, you name it but had absolutely no idea how to say spoon! Embarrassment aside, i suddenly realised that my useful vocabulary was rather limited. Cue massive vocab learning (if only i had listened to my lecturer).
So what have i learned since i have been here:

So what have i learned since i have been here:
- Vocab is important
- Spoon = Löffel
- Travelling with my parents was (despite what is written above) a really good idea. Made things a bit less scary.
- Listen to your lecturer when she tells you to learn words!
I'm going to try to make my blogs from here on a bit more focused. Sorry for the word vomit!!
So yeah, if u are interested keep on reading...
